EPCA is a NGO specializing in the field of marine and land conservation in the Egyptian Red Sea. What began with a dozen of concerned individuals grew through the years to become a large network of scientists, professional divers, industry experts, and community members who are pro-active in protecting and preserving the natural resources of the Red Sea, as well as promoting conservation and sustainable tourism practices.

History

During the 1980s, diving in the Red Sea was in its formative years and our founding members were the first generation to discover this unparalleled underwater eco-system. It was this more than anything that endowed our community with a strong sense of stewardship over this natural environment. These natural resources soon became the lynchpin of a community alliance, based on preserving one of the world’s most important repositories of marine biodiversity.

Very Nile was created in 2018 as an initiative that breaks boundaries through its wide range of ideas, strong commitment to action, and ability to bring together multi-sectoral volunteers and partners.

The Nile is a symbol of Egyptian heritage and a source of life for Egypt. However, according to the World Economic Forum, it is also one of 10 rivers that contribute 90% of the garbage in the world’s oceans.

By cleaning the Nile, raising awareness about the importance of reducing plastic consumption, and empowering local communities, Very Nile ensures that its impact is not just clear on a local and regional level, but on a global one as well.
