A natural reserve declared in 2007, located in the southwestern part of Al-Wadi Al-Gharbi Governorate.
It covers an area of 48,523 square kilometers, about 1,600 kilometers from Cairo.
It borders Libya and Sudan.
The reserve includes vast plains of sand dunes and caves dating back to prehistoric eras.
These plains are situated between the Gulf El-Gharbi plateau and the Ainata Mountain. The area features Nubian sandstone rocks, ancient volcanic craters, mountainous regions, deep wadis, and the Great Sand Sea mountain ranges that extend longitudinally from north to south.
It also contains meteorite fields that interacted with the earth, forming the largest meteorite field in the world.
