Nile River Islands are considered natural reserves in various Egyptian governorates. Studies indicate that the number of these islands reaches 144. Along the main course from Aswan to Qena in the Delta, there are 95 islands covering approximately 32,500 acres. In the Rosetta branch, there are 30 islands with an area of 3,400 acres, and in the Damietta branch, 19 islands with an area of 1,250 acres.
The total area of the Nile River islands is approximately 160 km². These islands are spread across the governorates of Aswan, Qena, Sohag, Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Giza, Cairo, Qalyubia, Monufia, Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh, Daqahliya, and Damietta.
